Gree® HVAC age

How to determine the date of production/manufacture or age of Gree® brand HVAC Systems.

The industry average service design life for most forced air furnaces is 15-20 years, and the industry average service design life for most air conditioning condensing units is 10-15 years. The average service design life of boilers can vary from as little as 10 years to as many as 50 years depending on the type and quality of materials used in their manufacture. Routine upkeep/maintenance, regional weather/climate, and location/placement of the mechanical systems will all play critical roles in the longevity of these systems.

Parent Company: Gree International

Subsidiaries or other related brands: None

Important Brand Notes: Gree Electric Appliances Inc. originates from Zhuhai Chinese, and is the world's largest residential air-conditioner manufacturer.

In 2008-2009, Daikin entered a production agreement with Gree Appliances and formed two joint venture companies (Zhuhai Gree Daikin Device Co., Ltd. & Zhuhai Gree Daikin Precision Mold Co., Ltd.) to produce high performance inverter type air conditioners, but we are unsure whether Gree or Daikin serial number and date code styles were used.

The date of production/manufacture or age of GREE brand HVAC equipment can be determined from the serial number located on the rating data plate. The styles encountered are from a variety of other OEM manufacturer styles.

Example serial number styles/formats found:

  • Style 1:    2020.05
  • The manufacturer notates the age on the data tag in year/month format.

Legend:  Year is RED; Month is GREEN

Style 1: 2020.05

Gree includes the date of manufacture on their data plates listed as 4-digit year and 2-digit month.
Every effort is undertaken to offer you correct and concise information to assist you in determining the age or manufacture date of HVAC/R equipment. Users relying on this information do so at their own risk.
