Thermo-Dynamics® HVAC age
How to determine the date of production/manufacture or age of Thermo-Dynamics® brand HVAC Systems.
The industry average service design life for most forced air furnaces is 15-20 years, and the industry average service design life for most air conditioning condensing units is 10-15 years. The average service design life of boilers can vary from as little as 10 years to as many as 50 years depending on the type and quality of materials used in their manufacture. Routine upkeep/maintenance, regional weather/climate, and location/placement of the mechanical systems will all play critical roles in the longevity of these systems.

Thermo-Dynamics does not encode the date of manufacture within their serial number.
Unless the manufacture date is specifically stated on the data plate, the date of production/manufacture or age of Thermo Pride brand HVAC equipment cannot be determined from the serial number alone.
Example serial number styles/formats found:
- Style 1: 48595
Legend: Year is RED; Month is GREEN; Week is BLUE
Style 1: 48595
Unless the data plate specifically states it, the manufacture date cannot be determined without assistance from the manufacturer. Both model and serial numbers must be included when contacting the manufacturer for assistance with manufacture date lookup.
Some sources indicate the year of manufacture is stamped on the combustion chamber above the inspection port (gently moving insulation may be required to see it).
Otherwise, you may be able to estimate the date of manufacture using other clues or date codes from the gas valve, ANSI or CSI or CGA standard revision date, and other helpful clues. For additional tips, please see our Hints and Tips page.
The sample data plate below is an example of a Thermo-Dynamics data plate that includes some references to revision dates (in very small print at bottom right of the labels). These dates may prove helpful in determining a year range or approximate year of manufacture. In this example the years 2003 and 2006 are both referenced on the rating labels. Contacting the manufacturer revealed this particular unit was manufactured in 2006.
In absence of other indicators, you must contact the manufacturer directly for assistance in determining the date of manufacture.
Note: If you have an older system believed to have been manufactured prior to 2005, we have resources that may be able to assist with estimated manufacture year (or range of years) by the model number. You can submit an assistance request HERE; however, we make no guarantee of being able to assist you.
