Traingle Tube® Boiler and Water Heater age

How to determine the date of production/manufacture or age of Traingle Tube® brand HVAC Systems.

The industry average service design life for most forced air furnaces is 15-20 years, and the industry average service design life for most air conditioning condensing units is 10-15 years. The average service design life of boilers can vary from as little as 10 years to as many as 50 years depending on the type and quality of materials used in their manufacture. Routine upkeep/maintenance, regional weather/climate, and location/placement of the mechanical systems will all play critical roles in the longevity of these systems.

The date of production/manufacture or age of Triangle Tube® hydronic equipment can be determined from serial number located on the rating data plate, but contacting their technical service department is required.

Triangle Tube® uses a sequential number system in their serial numbers so they cannot currently be easily decoded for the age of manufacture without assistance from their technical support.

Example serial number styles/formats found:

  • Style 1:    INSFS 155SA00698
  • Style 2:    IN199CAA001304
  • Style 3:    Q1754
  • Style 4:    PS 17638

Legend:  Year is RED;  Month is GREEN; Week is BLUE

Styles 1-4 additional information:

Triangle Tube uses sequential serial numbers that cannot currently be decoded. Unless the manufacture date is actually listed on the rating label, you MUST contact Triangle Tube directly and be able to provide them with the model number and serial number of the unit for accurate manufacture date.

You can contact them directly at:

Monday-Thursday: 8am – 5pm EST

Friday: 8am-4:30pm EST

Year of manufacture may be estimated by looking for the ANSI or CSA standard revision year listed on the rating plate. On most modern boiler equipment, we have found the standard revision year located in small print at the bottom right corner of the rating label. The unit cannot be any older than the revision year listed, and was likely manufactured within a 4-8 year span of (after) that year.

The rating label image below is from an Instinct Solo series boiler. Illustrated are the serial number (upper left corner of the rating label), listed manufacture date (lower left corner of the rating label), and ANSI & CSA compliance revision year (lower right corner of the rating label).
